Thoughtful Thursday: How Many Books Is Too Many?

Thoughtful Thursday

It is time for Thoughtful Thursday and the bookish questions that pop up while I am reading. Please share your thoughts on the bookish question of the week. I am curious to hear what you have to say! There are no wrong answers. Questions about Thoughtful Thursday or future Thoughtful Thursday posts? Check out my Thoughtful Thursday section. Alright, on to the question!

How many books do you read at a time? Is there a preferred number?

Recently, I noticed that I my stack of currently reading books was quite large. I was listening to three audio books and reading two physical/e-books books. I was completely overwhelmed by the sheer number. I quickly turned my focus to reading down the pile, so I could have a more manageable number. This large pile of books made me start to think about how many books that I prefer to read at a time.

I generally prefer to read two books at a time, one audio book and one physical book/e-book; however, when I start to get antsy/book happy, I will increase that number up to four books. At the most, I like to listen to one audio book, two physical/e-books that are fiction, and one non-fiction book. If I go past these book limits, I start to get confused by the plots (especially when I am reading several high fantasy books) or overwhelmed (I can't read so many books!). I like to read a couple of books at the same time, because my reading is very mood dependent, but I don't want to read so many that I can't keep track of the books' plots. My husband thinks I am crazy. He likes to read one book at a time. I like to tell him that monogamy is only for marriage, not for books! ;)

Now it is your turn! How many books do you read at a time? Is there a preferred number?
