TTT: Top Ten Favorite Audio Books (So Far)

Top Ten Tuesday

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week bloggers post a top ten list related to a specific theme. This week's theme is a freebie, so I am doing Top Ten Favorite Audio Books (So Far). All links lead to GoodReads and Audible.

A Song of Ice and Fire series by GRR Martin (Reader: Roy Dotrice)

Dotrice does an amazing job with all of the different voices in this series. I was able to keep track of all the different people based on his voice alone. Although I was definitely exhausted with this series by A Dance with Dragons, Dotrice was not to blame for this feeling.

Temeraire series by Naomi Novik (Reader: Simon Vance)

I read the most recent book in the Temeraire series, and I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous books, because I need Vance to read this series to me. I have linked his voices to the characters in this book. This is actually a problem, because when I listened to Vance read a book from a different series using the same voices that he uses for the dragons in the Temeraire series, I was completely confused. I didn't understand why there were dragons in this non-fantasy book.

Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch (Reader: Michael Page)

This is another series that I strongly associate with the reader. When I read the most recent Gentleman Bastard book, I read all of the dialogue with Page's accent.

Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris (Reader: Johanna Parker)

I just finished the final Sookie Stackhouse book, and I don't think I would have finished the series, if it was not for Parker. Parker made even the most rambling parts of this series sound like fun and completely reasonable. Parker made Sookie fabulous.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (Reader: James Marsters)

I am still early on in this series, and I am not 100% sold on the writing; however, Marsters is fantastic as the reader. He has this great gravely voice that is perfect for an urban fantasy, detective series.

The Martian by Andy Weir (Reader: RC Bray)

The Martian is the perfect example of a reader "plus-ing" a fun book. Bray nails the inflection and tone of the protagonist in this book. I can't imagine reading this book, now that I have heard it.

Doomsday Book by Connie Willis (Reader: Jenny Sterlin)

Sterlin did an amazing job reading this book. For the last few hours, I was either on the verge of tears or crying as I listened to the ending.

Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (Reader: Davina Porter)

I am only one book into this series, but I know that I will listen to the rest of the series, because Porter does such a great job with the voices. I don't think I would have swooned every time Jaime spoke, if it wasn't for Porter.

Harry Potter series by JK Rowling (Reader: Jim Dale - via Pottermore)

Although I don't love all of Dale's voices (I listened to the audio books after rereading the books multiple times, so I have my own ideas of what the characters sound like), Dale does an amazing job with this series. I can see myself listening to this series with my kids one day.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman (Reader: Kirsten Potter)

I was in near tears by the end of this book even though I was spoiled for the ending, because Potter was just that amazing. By the way, Where She Went by Gayle Forman (Reader: Dan Bittner) is just as good.
