Thoughtful Thursday: What do you do with books that you've read?

Thoughtful Thursday

It is time for Thoughtful Thursday and the bookish questions that pop up while I am reading. Please share your thoughts on the bookish question of the week. I am curious to hear what you have to say! There are no wrong answers. Questions about Thoughtful Thursday or future Thoughtful Thursday posts? Check out my Thoughtful Thursday section. Alright, on to the question!

What do you do with the books that you have read? Do you keep them? Donate them? Gift them? Return them to the library? Throw them away? Make them into arts & crafts projects? Has this changed during the years? Have you noticed a change in your perspective regarding read books?

I must admit that I did this Thoughtful Thursday post, because I was curious to know what you do with old books. I have a stack of ARCs that I need to find a good home for.

Once I read a book, it goes into one of two places: (1) My bookshelf because I loved the book so much or (2) the giveaway pile. I don't reread a lot of books, so most books that I read end up being given away. My husband and I have a tiny apartment, so I don't like to keep extra stuff around. What happens to the books in the pile?

1. I let my friends have first pass at the books. My friends have made out like bandits this way. My friend Amanda got a stack of hardcover Harry Potter books that I now wish to re-acquire via Goodwill. *sigh*

2. Donate books to the library or a charity shop. This has been a tradition for me, since I was very little. During winter break, I would go through my books and toys and donate things that I didn't use anymore before Christmas came. When I was little I kept more of my books, because I didn't have as much access to awesome books. Now that there are so many awesome books, I am more apt to give away books.

3. Giveaway! The giveaway is going to be a new thing for me. I finally have some books that I don't want to keep, but I think folks will want to win. Before I moved to Pennsylvania, I got rid of a ton of books, so the books that are in the giveaway pile now are mainly books that I didn't really like and don't necessarily want to subject to other people that I know and love.

I have also been thinking of trying my hand at paper crafts. I have seen some neat projects on Pinterest and the blogosphere.

Now it is your turn! What do you do with the books that you have read?
