2014 Jane Austen Challenge

I recently watched the movie The Jane Austen Book Club. This movie got me thinking about reading Austen's six completed novels. My plan is to read one Jane Austen book every two months.

Timeline
Jan-Feb - Sense & Sensibility
March-April - Pride & Prejudice
May-June - Mansfield Park
July-Aug - Emma
Sept-Oct - Northanger Abbey
Nov-Dec - Persuasion

If you want to get in on the fun (and keep me motivated to complete this challenge), feel free to  read-along! You can read/participate in as much of the challenge as you want. I will post my review of each book on the last weekday of the month (see below), and I will have a linky in the review post, so you can link up your review too! I just ask that you link back to my blog and use the graphic in your review post, so others can join in.

Review Dates
Sense & Sensibility - Feb 28th
Pride & Prejudice - April 30th
Mansfield Park - June 30th
Emma - Aug 29th
Northanger Abbey - Oct 31st
Persuasion - Dec 31st

I'm and Jane addict in that I've read P&P over and over - but I actually only read that one and Sense and Sensibility. I read P&P every April so I'll join in on that one for sure. I may have to just jump in all the way, since I love Sense and Sensibility too. Why not, right?

Happy New Year!!

Oh, I just might read some JA books during the year. I haven't read all her books actually, but I do have them all nicely lined up on my kindle :)

Have fun with your challenge, Pamela.

What a good idea! I don't plan to sign up because I'd rather string them out over a longer period of time, but I do want to (re)read P&P this year.

Thanks! I have been meaning to read a few of her books like Sense & Sensibility for forever, so I thought I might as well read all six of her books. :)

Exactly! It is the new year! We have nothing but time. I love the S&S movie so much, and I keep meaning to read the book but I never do. I figure I might as well start my own readathon and start reading. :)

I think I have all of her books on my kindle and at least one collection of all of her books. Free e-books are both the highlight and bane of my existence. ;)

No worries. If you decide to reread P&P when I am reading it fantastic, otherwise it is okay. :) This is a super low-key readathon. I am just going to post a linky on my reviews, so people can link up if they want. I figured that there might be some people also doing this, so we could keep each other on track.

I only have 2 Austens left to read (MP & NA) I think Persuasion is my favorite followed by P&P. I love most of the movie adaptations of her books. Good luck!

Thanks! Also, I am always glad to hear love for Austen's other books. I feel like P&P gets all the love. :) I have never read Persuasion, so I am excited to read it.

I think this is a fantastic idea. I own three of her books, have memorized the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightley, am a huge fan of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries web series, and yet have never read a Jane Austen novel. I admit I am ashamed of myself. Thanks for posting this challenge. I am definitely in!

Good luck to you!

Hallo, Hallo! :)

I was going to join but then I realised a promise I made myself about reading Austen through the books of hers I own! Trouble there is, I am not sure where I put my Austen books at the moment! :( Are you thinking of making this an annual reading!? IF so, I'd love to join you next year - to read all of them!? This year, I'll join you for a re-reading of "Pride and Prejudice" (just because its my absolute favourite!) and for "Persuasion" as I have never had the chance to read it! I attempted it during Austen in August (2013), but ran out of hours -- I am so thankful you said we could pick/choose! I'd read all of them for sure if I knew which box I put Jane Austen inside!

This is seriously wicked because I'll get to know a bit more about you via this reading challenge aside from just 'tweeting' you! :) I'll go sign up through BBC!! :)

Yea for joining the challenge! I am excited to do this with other folks and keep myself on track. I loved the Lizzie Bennet Diaries too! I am also starting to really enjoy Emma Approved. Thanks for letting me know how you found the challenge. :)

I am not sure, if I am going to do this challenge again next year. I will see how it goes this year. Feel free to pop in just for the Austen books that you do read. There is very little pressure with this challenge. Thanks for signing up through the BBC! :)

Ooh! I like this! I have just a few of her books I haven't read, but I think I'll join this challenge so that I'll read them this year and maybe I'll read P&P for the umpteenth time. :) I'll go write up a post and then come back and link it up.

Here's the link to my sign-up post. I know I didn't have to do a sign-up post, but it makes it more of a priority and I wanted to spread the word. :)

I love Jane Austen! I'm not a blogger just an avid reader so I think I'll join in. I haven't read anything other than Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion in ages. This will be fun!

How fun! I love Jane Austen even though I have a hard time reading her books.

You know, Misty over at The Book Rat holds "Austen in August" event every year. It's super fun and a big project that she has going on. I participated last year and was also a guest blogger where I reviewed The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Maybe this event will help encourage you with your Jane Austen goal?

Ok, to be honest, I haven't read Mansfield Park, too, but I've never really wanted to, no idea why, but I've postponing reading Emma for years.

Happy reading!

Persuasion is my favorite -- and so far Mansfield Park is my least. I just love to see what people think about each of her books, they are pretty distinct, even though there are a lot of similarities in plot and settings. I think its a pretty good indicator of a person's personality based on which book they love the most!

Hey ^^ Love the challenge just have a few questons;

I am currently reading 'Emma'.. will I have to read it again in July-August?
also I didn't realy have time to read 'sense and sensibility' in January-February.. is it okay if I still read it and get along with the challenge?

Unknown said...
March 15, 2014 at 9:44 PM

You don't need to reread Emma in July & August. You can just link up your review when I do the Emma linkup in August. You can read S&S whenever you want or not at all. This is a very casual read-along. :)
