From GoodReads:

Gabe's life has been devastated in the wake of the economic crash. The only option left for someone like him to escape his tragic past is to leave his small town behind and to attempt to become a skiptracer. This already almost impossible task is made all the more difficult by his first score, a young girl who won't speak, but who changes his life in ways he could never imagine.

Gabe's life hasn't been easy. He is old enough to have avoided the awful virus that is affecting all the children in the USA; however, he is young enough that he sees a long and hard road in front of him for the rest of his life. After weighing his limited options, Gabe decides to become a skiptracer. Gabe quickly realizes that skiptracing isn't as easy as he thought it would be. What happens when you stop seeing the kids as freaks and starting seeing them as...kids?

I was so excited to read this novella. I loved The Darkest Minds and Never Fade, and I wanted more in this world! Although I didn't love this book as much as the two main books in this series, I did really enjoy this book.

Let's talk about what I liked in this book. The writing was quite good in this novella. In only 89 pages, I really got to know Gabe. He was a three-dimensional character and quite believable. I felt like I got to see Gabe grow over the course of the novella. When good things happened to Gabe, I was happy. When bad things happened to Gabe, I was sad. Bracken did a great job with pacing in this novella. I have noticed that some authors write novellas to go with their series, and the novellas just don't work (e.g., too rushed due to the page count). In Time is just the right page count. I wasn't left wishing for a longer story. Finally, I really liked learning more about this world. Because Gabe is a skiptracer and an adult, we get to see this world from a new perspective and learn things that we couldn't have learned from Ruby's POV.

What didn't I like? The only thing that I didn't like was the ending. I felt it was a bit of a cop out.

As of right now, this novella gives readers information about a beloved character that you don't get anywhere else. Once the third book comes out, this may not be the case anymore.

I give this novella a 4 out of 5.
Very Good
