I got a book in the mail today! I received The Essential Cake Boss by Buddy Valastro through the GoodReads First Reads program. At first glance, it looks pretty neat. I look forward to reading through it.
Library
I picked up a couple of fun books at the library this week. My hold on Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman came up. Although I knew the book was short, I didn't realize how cute and tiny it is. I can't wait to sit down with it. I also got Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison, which was recommended by My Shelf Confessions. Finally, I was looking through the juvenile section of the library looking for an old favorite scary story when I came across Book of Enchantments by Patricia C. Wrede. I love the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede. I had heard of Book of Enchantments, but I had never seen it. I am very excited to check it out! Yippee!
Updates
Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris: I am a little more than half way through this book, and I am loving it. The Sookie Stackhouse books are a guilty pleasure of mine, and they are so much fun. I am living vicariously through Sookie and her sex-capades with all of Louisiana's supernatural set. Sookie has a good head on her shoulders, and she isn't afraid to go investigating when no one else seems to be interesting in helping her.
Battle Magic by Tamora Pierce: Okay, I am not done with this book, but I am halfway through it. The plot is definitely picking up. There is action, and I am starting to like and understand the characters. Although I did do some background reading on the world this book is set, I feel like I am missing information that would make me more invested in what is happening.
Boneshaker by Cherie Priest: I have just started this book, and I am already intrigued. We have met mom and son, and they have a difficult family history to bear. I have to admit, however, that I fearfully awaiting the introduction of the zombies (zombies scare me).
Fraterfest 2013
Things have been going well. I did one of the challenges so far. I am halfway done with Dead to the World and have started Boneshaker. I am also planning on checking out all of the Fraterfest bloggers tomorrow and Monday. Wow, okay, now that I am writing this, I am starting to realize I have a lot to do! I better get back to reading!

I had to put down Dead to the World. That series just got to be too long for me I think...

I am excited to read it. I haven't read a supernatural book recently that had a witch as the protagonist. It is refreshing. :)
I have a lot of knitting books (20 cubes of them to be exact), so I thought I should start cataloging them and finding inspiration from them. If you haven't tried knitting (or crocheting), I would definitely recommend them. I started to knit, because I can't cut straight or draw. Plus even if the item is a bit wonky when you are finished, you can usually still use it (ill-shapen potholders still work)! :)
Yeah, sometimes it's nice to mix up things on the blog a bit - got to keep the spark alive! That Neil Gaiman book is really gettting around, it's like the third mailbox post that I've seen it in - and I haven't heard of it previously! I need to read more Neil Gaiman though, I've loved the stuff I have read :D

Fortunately, the Milk is very cute (and short).
He just wrote a new adult novel, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, which I thought was brilliant. He has also written a lot of YA books too including Stardust, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book. All of which are really great too. I will admit though that I like the ending to Stardust the movie more than the ending in the book!
Gaiman does the narration for his audio books, and he has a great voice for it, if you are considering trying an audio book.
I love the Hollows - I actually am doing a reread right now. Enjoy it - I can't wait to hear your response, I know I was blown away the first time I read it. Good luck with the Fraterfest challenges. I've been slowly making my way through all of them and I think I only have 1 left :-)
I keep hearing good things about this series, so I am excited to start it!
I think my Fraterfest goals are starting to come together! I started back on Boneshaker tonight, and I am just speeding right through it. I keep flipping the pages, because I need to make sure that Briar (protagonist) doesn't get eaten by zombies!
I love Cake Boss. Every single time I see a cake show, or get a cook book I think I am going to magically turn into a Chef. LOL! Lord!

Me too. I had to stop buying cookbooks, because I discovered that I wasn't turning into one. Luckily, I married someone who likes to cook!
