Sunday Update!

This has been a fun weekend! First, I got to watch the new Doctor Who episode. It was the anniversary episode, and it was quite fantastic. I had been a bit disappointed with the last few Doctor Who episodes; however, this episode was quite strong. I was quite happy with it. I was also happy that the episode was being simulcasted on BBC America. I got to watch it legally and at the same time as everyone else! Yea! :)

Second, I discovered that wma audio books from Overdrive can be played on my iPod shuffle. I didn't think I could play Overdrive audio books on it (I had tried previously but something went wrong, and I just figured I couldn't do it), but I can! This opens me up to so many more library audio books. Before this discovery, I rarely listened to wma audio books (versus mp3 audio books), because I thought I could only listen to them on my computer. Although my library has a lot of mp3 audio books, which I can listen to on the Overdrive app on my phone, there were quite a number of wma audio books that I desperately wanted to listen to.

Weekly Book Haul

ARCs & Giveaways
I have been good about requesting ARCs; I only got two! I got Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly by Agatha Christie (because Shaelyn from Shae Has Left the Building mentioned it) and Beyond the Rift by Peter Watts (because Tabitha from My Shelf Confessions liked it). I also received two books from Goodreads: Too Cute Puppies by Animal Planet and Victorian Secrets: What a Corset Taught Me about the Past, the Present, and Myself by Sarah A. Chrisman.

Library
I got volumes 2-8 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8.

Updates
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie: Yeah, I haven't been really reading this book. Because the month is almost up, and I don't want to miss out on my book club's discussion, I will probably push through and finish this book.

Divergent by Veronica Roth: I have been focused on finishing A Feast for Crows, so I haven't been listening to Divergent. Now that this is my only audiobook and that I discovered that I can listen to WMA audio books from Overdrive on my iPod shuffle, I imagine that I will finish this book quickly.

We had a mini party and even ordered a pizza for the anniversary show. We are addicts at my house and have the whole collection on DVD from 1963-2012. Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly by Agatha Christie was a good one..enjoy!

I am so jealous of your DW collection! I have all of Doctor 9 & 10. I convinced my husband that we need to start watching classic DW (I have watched a few of the stories). We are starting from the beginning and just watching one episode a night. It will take a while, but I don't think we will get burnt out too quickly.

I had no idea there were so many Dr. Who fans in the book blog community! I'm kinda curious to check it out, although I guess I have a lot of catching up to do. :)

Curious about your thoughts on Feast for crows, I liked some elements of the book but it wasn't my fave in the series by any means (I'm a big fan of the series in general).

I finished A Feast For Crows as well this week, and I started A Dance with Dragons yesterday :) Let me know what you think of Divergent, I've borrowed it 3 times and never got to it since I heard it's so similar to the Hunger Games. Don'tcha just love Overdrive? I'm so happy my library has it too and I put audios (of books I've already read usually) on it all the time.

Have a great week Pamela!
Thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post today :)

If you are going to start watching Doctor Who, start with the new series (2005) with the ninth doctor. If you like it, then go back and try the early stuff.

AFFC is definitely not my favorite in the series. I did the audio book, and I found myself drifting during certain POVs. I had to go to the wiki to find out what happened during the Greyjoy chapters. I should have my review out this week!

I love Overdrive so much. Now that I realized that I can listen to both wma and mp3 audio books away from my computer, my love is even stronger!

I must admit that I am not loving Divergent yet. I just don't see a new society being created based on five adjectives, especially a new society formed from the remains of the US. Maybe I will see things differently soon?

Oh that is interesting, I have an ipod nano, i'd love to try an audio book. I think I need to send you another email for some instructions and where to find these audio books?
you are still the luckiest person I know with the goodreads first reads program :)

I hope the new Doctor lives up to my (impossibly) high expectations. An older guy will make for an interesting change after having 'the youngest Doctor ever'.

I too have been a little 'meh' about some of the recent Doctor Who, but, wow, Day of the Doctor was just spot on. No luck in my household with getting my husband to watch, but he's very tolerant of my bouncing around about it.

I need to get to A Feast for Crows in the near future, before I forget all that went on in A Storm of Swords.

Does your library use Overdrive for audio books? If it does, email me and I can help you with the process. It is super easy.

I read an article recently talking about why the switch in age. The author of the article argued that after the War Doctor, the time lord regressed a bit because of what he had done and so 10 and 11 were super young. Now the doctor has "grown up" (the War Doctor mentions something about how he needs to grow up and be an adult), so we can have an older doctor. I don't think any thought was really put into the Doctor's age though. Capaldi apparently is a big DW fan, so I am hoping that he will be awesome!

This episode really was good compared to recent episodes. My husband and I feel that Clara is being written really poorly and that is what is (partly) bringing down the show. Clara is an interesting character and the actress is doing a great job, but her material is not so good. Hopefully now that this "Impossible Girl" story line is over, things will get better.

I have no idea. I cannot even remember the last time I went to the library. I will have to look into it :) Thanks Pamela!

My daughter loved the Dr Who special. I haven't seen it yet; I'm still too early in the Tenth Doctor, so there would be too many spoilers.

As for the Overdrive books, that's great that you can listen to them on your Shuffle! I haven't tried wma books on my iPod classic yet; I hope they work as well!

The wma audio books should work on your iPod. If you have a problem, shoot me an email. I remember that there was some check box that needed to be checked (or maybe unchecked).

I read Blindsight by Peter Watts earlier this year. I enjoyed it, so I am sure I will like this book too!
