Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Things That I Am Thankful For

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week bloggers post a top ten list related to a specific theme. This week's theme is the Top Ten Bookish Things That I Am Thankful For.

1. Kindle Paperwhite -- I love my Kindle Paperwhite so much. It is lighter than my old Kindle Keyboard, and I can read it in the dark! I also love that I never have to worry about marking my place or about how big a book is (all books weigh the same on my Kindle). It is my constant companion.

2. Overdrive -- Overdrive is the most amazing app in the world. I can get books and audio books on my phone, Kindle, and computer for free! I am constantly checking my library's Overdrive website for new books.

3. Library -- As a poor grad student, I cannot buy lots of books. My library is my savior. They have all the books, audio books, DVDs (including Blu-Rays), and video games that a girl could want.

4. Midnight Book Releases -- One of my favorite bookish memories is going to the midnight release party for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at a local bookstore. It was so cool to seek kids and adults excited about the book.

5. GoodReads -- I love making lists; it may be one of my favorite things in the world. GoodReads lets me organize the books I have read and books I have yet to read. I also have made friends and got free books through this site!.

6. ARCs/Galleys -- I am not a patient person, so being able to get books before they are published is simply fantastic. Getting ARCs for The Republic of Thieves and Happy Hour in Hell pushed me to start blogging more regularly.

7. Sword & Laser Book Club -- In October 2012, I started watching a lot of YouTube videos. I ended up discovering the Sword & Laser Book Club. They had a YouTube show for a "season," but they also have a long-standing podcast. This show got me reading again, after a long hiatus due to grad school keeping me busy.

8. Authors -- Without authors, I wouldn't have all of these amazing books!

9. Bookmarks -- When I read physical books, I usually just grab any piece of paper that is handy; however, I LOVE bookmarks. I have an embarrassingly large collection for someone who mainly reads books on her Kindle.

10. Book Blogging Community -- I love talking about the books I read, but there is only so much that I can discuss with a lot of my friends and husband, before they plead to change the subject. I love having an entire Internet community to discuss my favorite books with!

I love everything you mentioned, although I have a nook hd. Goodreads has been a blessing for keeping track of favorite authors and series. Especially when they issue new releases or rename series *facepalm*

Oooh, I love bookmarks, too! They're so fun and pretty and way better than just sticking any old piece of paper in your book.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Great list! I left Goodreads off my TTT list for some unaccountable reason. And I love bookmarks too, but I'm always losing them. As for e-readers, well, I like my old Sony PRS-505, but I've begun casting a covetous eye on the Kindle Paperwhite.

Excellent list, Pamela! I am thankful for the same things. I love my kindle so much! I always have my books with me, as soon as I finish one, I can start the next :)

Thanks for stopping by earlier :) Happy reading.

I know I liked that Sword and Laser youtube show - sigh. You know I used to have a huge bookmark collection also - now its much more under control. Now I prefer a piece of stationary or one of those string bookmarks. I used to make a ton of them when I was obsessed with beading at one time.

I love reading my kindle paperwhite in the dark too :) And I love Overdrive too!! It’s the best thing ever. I just downloaded like 10 audiobooks for my road trip and I didn’t have to go anywhere. :) Aww I miss those midnight book releases…they were so fun!

I love that I can now figure out what number a book is in a series and if a book is in a series. Back when I was a kid, if a book was in a series, there was a number on the front cover!

I can usually just look at books when I go to Barnes & Noble, but I usually leave the store with a few bookmarks. They are my kryptonite.

I went completely with bookish items, because I was worried I would forget to include a family member or pet!

It took me a while to save up for my Kindle Paperwhite, but it was totally worth it. At the same time, a working e-reader is a good e-reader. :)

Sword and Laser just got a funded kickstarter. They are going to have a second season!

My library has lots of different bookmarks laying about the library. Every time I go get some books, I pick up some bookmarks! It has been keeping my purchasing at bay!

Overdrive is amazing. Everyday I check Overdrive to see, if there are new books I gotta have. :)

It's one of the best inventions ever! Especially because the kindle can fit even in my smaller purses, so I'm never without my books now :)

I should have participated in this one. Although, I have a thankful post scheduled for tomorrow, so that should work. I definitely am grateful for all of these too. :)

I saved up for a while; it was totally worth it. If you ever have a chance to go to one, you should. It is like going to a midnight movie release but a little more intimate. :)

I love bookmarks too - this year really got into magnetic bookmarks. I buy the little ones from magneticbookmarks.com. They're only 1.99, flat rate cheap shipping, and I love the collections. I keep meaning to put a post about them but havent gotten around it yet. They dont fall out and dont move, but also dont damage the pages.

I will have to check those out. I tried a magnetic bookmark years ago, but I thought it was too think. I will have to see how magnetic bookmark technology has improved over the years! :)
