End of the Year 2013 #ReadingCram: Day 3 Challenge

The End of the Year 2013 Read-a-Thon is going pretty well for me. I think I may actually finish Ancillary Justice tomorrow! Hurray! Today's challenge was to list your top ten books for the year. So this was super hard, because I read over 140 books this year. For this challenge, I chose the top ten non-SF&F books. Later this month, I will just pick my top 10 SF&F books. All links lead to GoodReads.

1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

I listened to the audio book, and I just loved it. I laughed, I cried, I didn't want the book to end.

2. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
This was another great audio book. I think by the end of this book I was crying.

3. Still Writing by Dani Shapiro
This is a great book of short essays on being an author and writing.

4. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
I just read this, and it made me smile.

5. Social Media Metrics for Dummies by Leslie Poston

Although this may not be an exciting title. I found it incredibly helpful as I was starting out in my book blogging.

6. When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris

I went on a Sedaris kick recently, and I fell in love with this book.

7. Bossypants by Tina Fey

This was another great audio book. Fey reads the book, and there are audio excerpts from her shows.

8. The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
The last time I read this book, I was in high school. I did a reread after the movie. This book made a much bigger impact on me this time.

9. Where She Went by Gayle Forman
This was a great audio book. I didn't think this book would affect me as much as If I Stay, I was so wrong.

10. The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr & EB White
Again, this might be a weird recommendation, but I found it immensely useful.

I like the sound of The Fault in our Stars! This Audio book thing might be addictive... Great list and keep up the great progress!

I read If I Stay a few years ago (mostly at an arcade, of all places), but still haven't gotten around to reading Where She Went! Definitely doing so before the movie comes out. As for Bossypants, I can only imagine how hilarious it must be with Tina reading it. :)

Some great books on your list! I loved Gayle Forman's books as well, and fault in Our Stars, and of course The Great Gatsby! Nice list!

Where She Went was much better than I was expecting. I forgot that they are doing an If I Stay movie. I hope it doesn't up looking super cheesy. Tina Fey was great. It felt like Tina and I were just hanging out and telling me stories.

Thanks! This was a really hard list to make. For one of the upcoming Top Ten Tuesdays, I am just doing SF&F books. :)

I loved If I Stay but for some unknown reason, can't seem to crack open Where She Went. I'll have to get around to that! Also, I have to admit, I've never tried an audio book before :\ Any standouts that would be good to try?

I didn't think I was going to enjoy Where She Went, but it was really good. Once you open the book, you won't be able to close it. Audio books that I really enjoyed were If I Stay/Where She Went, The Fault in Our Stars, the Song of Ice and Fire series, the Temeraire series, and the Sookie Stackhouse series. Overdrive has samples of their audio books, and so does Audible. Usually, these two sites have different samples, so you can get a good idea of the books. Picking audio books can sometimes be a very personal experience. The reader can really make or break the book.
